This week we've been reflecting on trends - a misunderstood term on social media.

The common misconception is that trends don't make for content that actually converts.

One thing to always remember on social media- there are many trends of different sizes, a trend is really just a video format and hook that is widely repeated by many creators. And at the smaller sizes and in business, they often work because its content users want to watch.

A perfect example is  ____ ranks ____ on scale of 1-10

Originally started in the doctor and health space, this is a great video format for ANY expert or personal brand around a topic.

We dropped it in our Slack for all our personal brands in Session 13 to try.

Shashank hit it first, hes a Builder account for his AI startup, and content like this helps him establish expertise and attention in his niche.

This was quickly followed by Niels in the education niche who quickly picked up more than a million views.  This is his second time through Cut30 and his second viral video from formats we present in the coursework.

And it's also note that if you don't want to participate in the trends, you can also discuss them.  Ashii has been super consistent since taking Cut30, with 70+ green screen videos and over 10k followers on TikTok.  In her recent 100k+ view breakout, she discussed the trends versus following them.

So how do you keep up?  We try to keep dropping formats that we see that can work for our students regularly in the Cut30 slack, but the best strategy is what we call intentional scrolling.

Create a second IG, follow 50 people in you or your brands niche, and only engage with content in that space.  You'll find on your IG or TikTok you'll see far more relevant content.  Set two 20m periods just to scroll and take notes a week and you'll be shocked what you learn.

Our next Cut30 is kicking off May 13th - hope to see you there!

- Oren, Alex & Colin
